Computer Network

In our daily life, we come across different types of network. Some examples are Network of roads , Communication network of telephone system , Network of Banks \ ATMs , Radio \ Television network system broadcast programs live across the world , Network of malls\schools\colleges etc.

What if there is No Mobile, No TV, No Internet? Can you Imagine Life without Networking ? If No, then let's explore it fully. 

Definition 

A computer network is a group of inter-connected computers and other peripheral devices are linked together for the purpose of sharing data and resources and allowing communication. Two or more computers are connected using cable or wireless technology.

Benefits of computer networking

1. Networking in computers brings efficiency, economy, effectiveness in an organization.
2. Efficient use of storage media: - Better to store a shareable application data on a network drive than to store a copy of the application on each user's storage device. -Better to have one big hard disk in the server than to have small hard disk in different computers.
3. Reduction in hardware costs: In a network, the hardware devices that are not used very often, like modems, printers, scanners, CD-writers etc., can be shared.
4. Redundancy:  A network reduces the need for hard copies of all documents by sharing the soft copy of a file over the network.
5. Quickest Document Delivery : Instant delivery of soft copies.

Types of Network

LAN : A network which is designed to operate over a such physical area such as an office , college , room , factory or a group of buildings.In LAN, two or more computers and peripheral devices are connected within a small area.Computer terminals are physically connected with wires in this network.The data transmission speed is slow as compared to WAN.

MAN : A MAN is a computer network that interconnect users with computer resources in a geographic area or region larger than that covered by even a large LAN.It is larger network than LAN and spread across a city.Since, it covers a city, it is called metropolitan network.Most common example of MAN type network are cable television network , branches of a local bank etc.

WAN : World connecting network is WAN.It exists over a large-scale geographical area.A WAN connects different smaller networks, including local area networks (LANs). When a network spans a large distance or when the computers to be connected to each other are at widely separated locations , a LAN cannot be used.For such situations , a WAN must be installed.They are linked together by communication facilities like telecommunication or satellite signals.The most common example is Telecom system. Best example of WAN are internet & intranet in a large multinational company , ATM facility , national and multinational bank customer services.

Topology

The word topology explain how our PCs connected with each other physically. And any pattern is originating there that is called topology.The types of topology are STAR Topology , RING Topology , BUS Topology , MESH Topology , TREE Topology.

The computer to the computer connecting network is called a computer network, a great invention of science that must be used to make the world a better place.
